JAD Workshop – An Important Step in Functional Design for IT Projects

JAD Workshop – for many readers, this abbreviation may be new. Expanded, it stands for Joint Application Design. From my experience, this step is incredibly useful in the functional design of IT projects, and I dedicate special attention to it.

What is a JAD Workshop?

Back in 1970, Chuck Morris and Tony Crawford from IBM developed the JAD approach. This approach incorporates one or more workshops after the functional design has been created and before the software development begins.

Participants in these workshops include business representatives, functional consultants, programmers, QA specialists, and the project sponsor.

During these workshops, the functional consultant also acts as the facilitator. They present the developed functional design in a way that everyone can understand. This design includes the business’s expectations, details about the business logic, communication between various functionalities, and connections or impacts on other systems.
